Overview
Year 198 of the Solar Era in Tokyo, special fire brigades are fighting against a phenomenon called spontaneous human combustion where humans beings are turned into living infernos called "Infernals". While the Infernals are first generation cases of spontaneous human combustion, later generations possess the ability to manipulate flames while retaining human form. Shinra Kusakabe, a youth who gained the nickname Devil's Footprints for his ability to ignite his feet at will, joins the Special Fire Force Company 8 which composes of other flames users as they work to extinguish any Infernals they encounter. As a faction that is creating Infernals appears, Shira begins to uncover the truth behind a mysterious fire that caused the death of his family twelve years ago.

Episode 1Shinra Kusakabe Enlists
On his first day with Special Fire Force Company 8, Shinra Kusakabe, a third-generation pyrokinetic who is able to produces flames from his feet, meets his fellow company members and begins to fulfil his wish of becoming a hero.

Episode 2The Heart of a Fire Soldier
Arthur Boyle, the self-professed “Knight King,” arrives at Company 8, and immediately, there are tensions between him and Shinra. With the Rookie Games coming up, Hinawa wants to see what the two new recruits are really capable of.

Episode 3The Rookie Fire Soldier Games
Shinra and Arthur compete in the Rookie Fire Soldier Games, a contest to test the abilities of each year’s newest recruits. However, they are interrupted at the goal by the mysterious man who created explosions at their last fire scene.

Episode 4The Hero and the Princess
A call mistakenly comes in to Company 8 to rescue a dog out of a tree, to which Shinra and Arthur respond. However, when an Infernal suddenly appears at the district courthouse, the two must play catch-up to join the rest of the company.

Episode 5The Battle Begins
While jogging, Shinra inadvertently disturbs Iris’s purification rite, and sees that she is troubled. When Iris later turns up missing, the other members of Company 8 rally to Company 5’s compound, to which Iris had secretly slipped away.

Episode 6The Spark of Promise
Shinra confronts Hibana in an attempt to rescue Iris, and must once again deal with her ability to make his body shut down. The story of Hibana and Iris’ youth as orphans, as well as Hibana’s rise to prominence, is revealed.

Episode 7The Investigation of the 1st Commences
The members of Company 5 and 8 get together for a cookout, ostensibly to celebrate a successful nighttime training exercise. Using the bylaws of the Special Fire Force, Obi gets Shinra and Arthur temporarily assigned to the 1st to investigate it.

Episode 8Infernal Insects
Obi goes over Hibana’s research, and learns that the artificially-created Infernals she dissected all had traces of insect DNA in them. Shinra and Arthur’s investigation at the 1st continues, and they finally get their first lead on a culprit.

Episode 9The Spreading Malice
Tamaki watches on as Shinra confronts Rekka over his actions, and reminisces about how she once looked up to the lieutenant. Rekka reveals his objective in seeking out compatible children, one which could spell disaster for the entire world.

Episode 10The Promise
A captains’ conference is convened to allow the Special Fire Force to discuss the situation with the Evangelist and the White-Clad. Shinra once again has an encounter with Joker, in which startling information about Shinra’s brother is revealed.

Episode 11Formation of Special Fire Force Company 8 / The Mightiest Hikeshi
While Company 8 searches for clues about the Evangelist, Hinawa recounts the tale of how the company originally came into existence. A lead prompts the crew to pay a visit to Company 7’s jurisdiction in Asakusa, and its captain, Benimaru.

Episode 12Eve of Hostilities in Asakusa
Company 8 pitches in to help rebuild Asakusa after the latest Infernal incident, helping to gain the trust of its people. However, a White-Clad plot threatens to undo all of their goodwill, prompting Obi to take matters into his own hands.

Episode 13The Trap Is Set
With Konro’s help, the members of the 8th begin investigating events in the 7th’s jurisdiction. Chaos breaks out one dozens of cases of mistaken identity crop up, and the town’s people turn on each other. The 8th comes under White-Clad attack.

Episode 14For Whom the Flames Burn
As Asakusa burns around them, Konro encourages Benimaru to step into his role as a community leader. Benimaru devises a way for the townspeople to foil the designs of the impostors among the crowd. Konro reaches out to Shinra for help.

Episode 15The Blacksmith’s Dream
Viktor Licht is assigned to Company 8 as its forensic scientist, but he is viewed with suspicion, since the assignment came from Haijima. Obi sends Shinra, Arthur and Iris to speak to a man named Vulcan about joining the 8th as its engineer.

Episode 16We Are Family
Vulcan teaches Yu a lesson in the importance of forging things that cannot be broken, and his hope to create similarly unbreakable family ties. Sensing a threat to Vulcan, the members of Company 8 take up positions to keep him safe.

Episode 17Black and White and Gray
While Dr. Giovanni continues to search Vulcan’s workshop, Hibana comes to Shinra’s aid, allowing him to rush back to help Vulcan. Meanwhile, Arthur has his hands full trying to deal with Mirage’s illusions, and Iris resists in her own way.

Episode 18The Secrets of Pyrokinesis
Vulcan gets settled in at the 8th, while Captain Obi meets with Hibana, Konro, and Karim to exchange data on the White-Clad matter. Konro proposes that Shinra and Arthur be given combat training in Asakusa to improve their fighting skills.

Episode 19Into the Nether
Licht’s analysis of the attack on Vulcan’s workshop reveals that the Evangelist’s men have been in the “Nether,” the area beneath Tokyo. Company 8 proceeds underground in search of the White-Clad and the secrets behind human combustion.

Episode 20Wearing His Pride
Hinawa comes upon an abandoned subway station, where he gets into a shootout with Arrow. Arthur and Mirage find themselves in a rematch, as Arthur gets the chance to put the training he received from Benimaru and Konro to the test.

Episode 21Those Connected
Obi and Vulcan face off against Dr. Giovanni and Lisa, during which Giovanni tells Obi more about the nature of Adolla Bursts. Shinra has an unusual experience that leads him to find Sho, but their reunion proves more volatile than hoped for.

Episode 22A Brother’s Determination
As Shinra and Sho continue to share their Adolla Link, Shinra learns a startling truth about the origin of his Adolla Burst flame. Shinra comes to understand the Link’s nature further, developing his skills even more in his effort to reach Sho.

Episode 23Smile
Shinra revisits his childhood to share his memories with Sho, to try to forge a deeper connection. When one of their own is critically injured, the members of the 8th rally to the rescue, and turn to Captain Huang of the 6th for assistance.

Episode 24The Burning Past
Before being discharged from the hospital, Shinra is visited by Captain Burns, who offers to tell him all about the fire that happened 12 years ago, but only if Shinra can demonstrate that he is strong enough to hear the whole truth.

Episode 1A Fire Soldier’s Fight
Company 8’s junior crewmen take in a day of shopping for some new clothes for Lieutenant Hinawa, but their excursion is interrupted by the appearance of a giant Infernal. The 8th prepares for the annual Special Fire Force beefcake calendar shoot.

Episode 2Flames of Madness
Shinra is approved to have a meeting with Company 4 Captain Hague, who may be able to provide information on the Evangelist and Adolla Bursts. However, once the meeting starts, nearly everyone involved begins behaving erratically.

Episode 3A New Flashpoint
Obi goes to see the chief with news of a fifth Adolla-Burst bearer. Schoolgirl Inca, who has the ability to sniff out fires before they start, becomes notorious as the Fireground Thief, extorting valuables from victims in exchange for rescuing them.

Episode 4Groping Through the Fire
A widespread outbreak of fires stretches the members of Company 8 thin. Shinra tries to keep Charon and his men from taking Inca. With a shortage of ecclesiastical assistance, the crew members cannot put the Infernals to rest fast enough.

Episode 5Corna (Sign of the Devil) / A Secret Plan
Shinra makes an important discovery about how to fight Charon, but incorporating a new hand form into his fighting style proves difficult. The other Fire Soldiers put into action a novel approach toward putting to rest a demon Infernal.

Episode 6The Time to Choose
Inca is faced with the decision of whether to go with Shinra and the Fire Force, or to go with Charon and side with the Evangelist. Fed up with always being a step behind the Evangelist’s men, the 8th launches a research expedition to find answers.

Episode 7Road to the Oasis
The task force arrives on the Chinese Peninsula, and sets off through inhospitable territory toward a spatial rift that they hope will provide the answers they seek. They pick up an unexpected companion along the way who agrees to be their guide.

Episode 8Smoldering Malevolence
Shinra hears a voice via an Adolla Link. Scop tells the team about a mysterious woman in black robes that taught him how to speak, and who repaired the Tabernacle. The team’s mission takes a turn when intelligent Infernals show up at the Oasis.

Episode 9The Core
Pan, Arthur and Licht continue to investigate the inside of the Tabernacle, while outside, the rest of the team have their hands full fighting off an Infernal attack. Shinra has an idea as to how to beat them, but needs Ogun to buy him some time.

Episode 10The Woman in Black
Through Adolla Links and the assistance of Grace, Shinra learns more about the Evangelist and views Tempe’s memories. The team completes their investigation into the Tabernacle, but draw some unsettling conclusions from what they learn.

Episode 11Dark Hero
After reporting their findings to Obi, the team is dismayed to hear that their discoveries are being quashed by the church, prompting Licht to turn to unofficial channels. Joker approaches Benimaru with a proposition concerning the Holy Sol Temple.

Episode 12Shadows Cast by Divine Light
Joker and Benimaru break their way into the church in search of the hidden scriptures. When Benimaru presses Joker for answers as to how he knows so much, Joker tells him about his past, revealing some dark secrets about the Holy Sol Temple.

Episode 13A Pair of One-Eyes
Burns confronts Joker and Benimaru, then offers them the scant leads he has uncovered during his own personal probe of the Holy Sol Temple. Konro reports Benimaru’s findings to the 8th, and the target of their next investigation becomes clear.

Episode 14The Ashen Reaper
Licht reveals to the other members of the 8th that he has been spying on them for Haijima. Licht and Shinra come up with a plan to get inside the child pyrokinesis lab where Shinra was institutionalized as a child to uncover some dirt on Haijima.

Episode 15A Three-Way Melee
At Licht’s signal, the rest of the 8th breaks into the Haijima compound, where Vulcan and Maki confront an overpowered puppeteer. The rest of the company meets up with Shinra and Licht, who are facing Kurono, when a third party shows up!

Episode 16Mind Blown
The three-way battle between Haijima, the White-Clad, and the 8th continues, but when Ritsu and Haumea both use their unique abilities, everyone involved is placed in imminent danger. It’s up to Vulcan and Arthur to turn things around.

Episode 17Boys, Be Weak
As Nataku continues to rampage, Shinra Adolla Links with him, revealing the pressure his parents placed on him to succeed. When the threat Nataku poses comes to a head, his protection as one of the Pillars comes from an unlikely source.

Episode 18The Holy Woman’s Anguish / The Man, Assault
A routine trip to the Baptism Church to bless the 8th’s equipment reveals the crisis of faith that Iris and other Holy Sol Temple clergy are facing. Assault is back and ready to take on Tamaki, who stands in his way of exterminating the 8th.

Episode 19The Oze Family
Maki returns home for a family dinner, where her brother, Takigi, a criminal investigator with the Armed Forces, asks her about her time in the Nether. When Takigi is injured in a White-Clad attack, Maki’s father recalls her to the military.

Episode 20Weapons of Destruction
Company 2 and Company 8 launch a joint, multi-pronged investigation into the Nether, and are met with resistance by the White-Clad. The squad containing Tamaki and Juggernaut faces a particularly deadly new foe named Orochi.

Episode 21Enemy Contact
Tamaki struggles to get Juggernaut back to the surface. Takigi and Hinawa find themselves at odds with each other, as well as with a new threat from the White-Clad. Shinra suddenly comes face to face against an old adversary.

Episode 22Plot for Extinction
Shinra and Arthur continue their battle against Dr. Giovanni, who reveals some new information about Adolla Links. Licht discovers an imminent crisis threatening the Fire Soldiers in the Nether, as well as the Tokyo Empire at large.

Episode 23Firecat
Shinra wants to know why he was able to Link with Konro, while Hibana remains suspicious of him. Benimaru invites Shinra and Arthur back to the 7th for more training, and Tamaki, tired of being a burden to others, comes along as well.

Episode 24Signs of Upheaval
Benimaru continues to push Shinra and Arthur to their limits in order to unlock their Hysterical Strength. Captain Huang examines Konro at Hibana’s request, as she tries to uncover the mysteries of those who have been touched by Adolla.

Shinra loses consciousness while observing the world before the Great Cataclysm. The next time he wakes, three months have passed and the fifth giant pillar has appeared. On top of all of that, Shinra himself is tied up in an unfamiliar room. Confused by his situation, Shinra begins to panic. Just then, someone arrives.

Episode 14With the Sun at His Back
Upon hearing that the sixth and seventh giant pillars have appeared simultaneously, Fire Force soldiers are dispatched. They attempt to deal with the situation by by borrowing manpower from Haijima and the Imperial Army, but handling two pillars at once proves difficult and they find themselves shorthanded. Just then, Benimaru spots a certain Infernal near the seventh pillar.

Episode 15Birth
The fierce battle between Benimaru and Hibachi has brought Adolla closer, and the reflection of the moon in the gouged out surface of the sea seems strange. Observing these events leads Licht to understand the truth of the doppelgangers and the objective of the Great Cataclysm. Around that same time, Sho is striving to learn about his family before the world is destroyed.

Episode 16Savior
The last massive pillar has appeared. Every moment brings the Great Cataclysm closer. Special Fire Force Company 2 pours everything they have into unleashing one powerful blow against the giant Infernal, but it isn't enough. Then the sun sets completely, enveloping the world in darkness and despair. At that moment, a single ray of light appears and Emperor Raffles I descends.

Episode 17At the Center of the World
After Raffles I is laid to rest, Shinra, Sho, and Iris suddenly disappear along with the rest of the Pillars. And now, with all eight assembled, the Great Cataclysm is only one step away. Even in this hopeless situation, the 8th wants to go look for Shinra and the others, but without any clues, they have no way to take action. Then, someone extends a helping hand to them, but who?

Episode 18Incantation of Destruction
In order to bring Shinra and the others back, and to prevent the Great Cataclysm, Special Fire Force Company 8 marches on Amaterasu. As Ogun and the others hold the White Clad at bay, Vulcan's team begins investigating inside Amaterasu. Using a map that Joker gave them, they reach the core area. They even successfully unlock the doors to the area, but in that moment, Dr. Giovanni appears.

Episode 19Those Who Fight Back / The Final Imagining
Dr. Giovanni has become an Infernal and taken over Yu's body. He inserts the key into Amaterasu's power generator and triggers the Great Cataclysm. When he does, the world and the images of Adolla begin to merge into one, and large-scale fires break out all over the Empire. As cries of despair rise from the people, the Special Fire Force soldiers are powerless with no course of action left.

Episode 20Where Hope Is
Colossal fires throw the Tokyo Empire into chaos. Cries of despair from the people spread until they threaten to swallow the Fire Force soldiers, too. At that moment, Obi encourages his comrades to rise up. His words get the fire soldiers get back on their feet, and they begin rescue operations to bring hope to the people. Then, as if to mock them, demons who bring despair to the world appear.

Episode 21Dragon and Knight Surge Toward the Heavens
Seeking to settle the score from their last meeting, Arthur challenges Dragon to battle alone. Their fight rages over land, sea, and air. And then, they travel to the surface of the strange moon. In the airless vacuum and extreme cold, Arthur desperately fights back, but then, at last, he collapses. The fate of the world hangs on this battle. Will the Knight King, Arthur, be able to win?

Episode 22Hero Resurrected
Arthur has exorcised the great despair. Just as everyone wonders if the Great Cataclysm has stopped, the moon begins falling toward Earth. At the same time, Kurono and Joker face off against their doppelgangers. And then, the "strongest demon" also appears.

Episode 23Despair Saintess
Shinra and Sho confront Haumea in Adolla. Haumea believes that humanity's collective unconscious harbors a wish for death. She kills Inca and Sumire right in front of Shinra and Sho. The brothers reject Haumea's words and launch an attack, but for some reason their blows don't reach her.

Episode 24Answer
Shinra's rage and despair spark the transformation of the earth into a second sun. With humanity's wish fulfilled, Haumea prays for her own death. Shinra faces her with a demonic expression, intent on killing her. Then, a huge flash of light strikes from space! The battle between the saintess (Haumea) and the hero (Shinra) reaches its climax!

Episode 25Hero's Tale
Shinra Bansho Man revives the world, bringing back all of the dead, and that seems to be that. But the world has changed. Shinra Bansho Man has turned death into something familiar and friendly. When he says to live life to the fullest Haumea rejects him and the world, and tries to choose despair yet again. Then, Death appears. This scorching dark fantasy led by flames now comes to an end!
